Treatments for Rosacea and Redness
What is rosacea & redness?
Rosacea and redness are characterised by flushing, high colour, visible veins and redness – typically in the face. Although the exact cause of rosacea is unknown, there are certain triggers which can cause the condition to flare up and temporarily worsen. These include:
- Stress
- Spicy foods
- Alcohol
- Hot drinks
- Extreme temperatures
- Exercise
- Certain medications
- Cosmetic products
What are the symptoms of rosacea / redness?
Symptoms commonly associated with rosacea / redness include:
- Flushing of the skin
- Persistent redness of the face
- Visible veins on the face
- Swollen bumps or pimples on the face
- Dry, irritated eyes
- Skin thickening on the nose
When present, rosacea can cause the skin to feel hot, inflamed and sore. As well as experience discomfort, people with rosacea often feel self-conscious of their appearance, particularly as facial redness is notoriously difficult to cover with cosmetics.
Due to this, many people choose cosmetic treatments to resolve their condition.
What can you do about rosacea / redness?
As the underlying cause of rosacea is unknown, it cannot be ‘cured’. However, the symptoms of rosacea / redness can certainly be minimised and relieved.
Laser skin treatment is the most effective way of resolving the symptoms of rosacea and redness.
By targeting the underlying veins with lasers, doctors can force the blood to flow through deeper, healthier veins. As the veins just below the surface of your skin are no longer in use, they are not visible. In addition, laser skin treatment can be used to minimise redness and resurface thickening skin.
