What are Warts on the Face?
Warts are a localised thickening of the skin which is caused by the human papilloma virus. These bumpy growths are especially distressing when they occur on the face.
Facial warts often more commonly occur in men particularly around the chin and mouth area. They can often spread from shaving and become a real nuisance as they can grow very quickly.
Warty lesions can also occur on the face as we age due to sun damage. Some ‘warts’ are caused by a viral infection that means they can often recur or regrow at a later date but other lesions are simply ‘warty’ in appearance and are generally harmless.
We would always advice patients to seek a doctors opinion in the any case where they are unsure as to what the lesion is and if it growing quickly.

Treatment at Home
Over the counter treatments including paints and special plasters contain salicylic acid. These are not recommended for the face, due to the risk of skin irritation which may cause scarring.
