Before & After Smokers Lines Filler Results
Soft fillers for smoker's lines
What are smoker's lines?
Smoker’s lines refer to the fine wrinkles and vertical lines that develop above the upper lip, which are also known as “lipstick lines” or “perioral lines.”
These lines are commonly seen in smokers, but they can also appear in non-smokers due to ageing, genetics, and sun exposure.
They can make the lips appear thin and aged, and are often treated with cosmetic procedures such as dermal fillers or laser resurfacing.
How are smoker's lines formed?
We all suffer from lines and wrinkles as we get older, but smokers are especially susceptible to the signs of ageing. This is because the chemicals in cigarettes damage collagen and elastin in the skin. Loss of collagen/elastin causes the skin to lose its firmness and lines develop.
In addition, the action of pursing the lips around a cigarette is an additional factor which accentuates the development of premature lines and wrinkles on the lips and around the mouth.
Once lines and wrinkles have formed, they tend to degenerate rather than get better on their own.
How can I get rid of smoker's lines?
Dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid are a highly effective treatment for this area. They work by revolumising the lips, replenishing fullness so that the skin is smoother and lines are diminished.
Clients are often concerned about how they’ll ‘feel’ in place, but the latest generation of fillers are incredibly soft.
At Cosmedics Skin Clinics, our team focus on a flattering and natural result, so this is about smoothing out lines. We won’t give you unnatural pouty lips, just restore a more youthful look.
This treatment is fast and pain-free. The treatment can be repeated regularly as the effects wear off over time. Results last around 18 months and can be topped up in order to maintain the benefit before they fully wear off.

Smoker’s Lines Fillers FAQ: Questions & Answers
Can non-smokers get smokers lines?
The wrinkles that form around the mouth and on the lips are often due to repetitive lip movements. Smoking is a common cause, hence the name. However, they can also appear through drinking through a straw and even talking.
Is there anything I can do myself to improve smokers lines?
It definitely helps if you can stay well hydrated. Drink plenty of water and use a good daily moisturiser to lock in hydration. In addition, using a daily SPF sunscreen helps to protect the skin from sun damaged. Avoiding repetitive or excessive facial expressions may also help, but that may be easier said than done.
Once smoker’s lines are established, then a non-surgical treatment is the most effective solution.
When should I start smokers lines treatment?
As with all signs of ageing, the sooner you start treatment the better. Early treatment means that you can slow the progression, essentially keeping development of smoker’s lines at bay.
The lips are sensitive, so is this treatment painful?
Filler treatment can cause some discomfort, but most patients do not find it overly painful. The dermal fillers actually contain a local anaesthetic, so that your lips are numbed quite quickly. If required, your doctor may use a topical numbing cream in advance to minimise any discomfort caused by the entry of the needle.
What product is used for this procedure?
At Cosmedics Skin Clinics, our doctors only use advanced and long-lasting Juvederm® hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers.
Are there any potential side-effects to treatment?
The most common side effects are redness, swelling, and bruising around the injection site. These side effects are quite minor and usually subside within a few days after treatment and many patients.
More serious side effects such as infection, allergic reactions, or damage to the nerves or blood vessels are very rare. However, it’s important to choose a medically qualified practitioner.
How long do results last after smoker’s lines treatment?
The results of filler treatment for smoker’s lines can last anywhere from 6-12 months, depending on the type of filler used and the individual patient.
How long does treatment take?
Smoker’s lines treatment usually takes around 30 minutes and you will see the results immediately after the procedure is finished. However, there may be some initial puffiness, so the full effects won’t be visible until everything has settled down. This is just a few days after the treatment.
