Canary Wharf magazine’s latest beauty feature looks at the health and beauty benefits of turmeric, which after being hailed as beneficial by dietitians is now praised by dermatologists for its benefits to the skin.
The feature entitled ‘Turmeric’s a treasure‘ included expert advice from Cosmedics Skin Clinics’ founder Dr Ross Perry.
Turmeric contains curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory properties. It has been used for centuries in India for a range of health complaints (e.g. digestive, joints) and also used in Asia as a natural beauty aid.
Dr Ross Perry explained more:
“Turmeric is known to be a natural antioxidant and as such can have an anti-inflammatory effect. This has been shown to help particularly with musculoskeletal conditions in some people. While its effects are yet to be firmly established in other areas of medicine it does seem that turmeric could have a potential benefit to skin conditions.”
As well as being a traditional and vital ingredient in curry; turmeric is now available in a host of skin and beauty products from shampoo to face masks, muscle rub to skin serums, spot creams and moisturisers. A range of turmeric beauty products were showcased in Canary Wharf magazine’s feature.
