This advice has been compiled by our expert doctors and surgeons to help clients get the best results.

Timeline days What to expect What to do
1-3 Mild swelling and minor redness.
Slight discomfort at some injection points that eases off.
Cold compress, massage firm if swollen.
Arnica cream in case of bruising.
Can use concealer.
3-7 Swelling all settled, no discomfort, minor bruising. Arnica cream and makeup
7-14 Minor fullness and the odd area of being able to feel a small lump. Firm massage to any lumpy areas.
6 months Good result still remaining but could be started to soften. Call us to book an appointment to see how the results are lasting.

What to expect after treatment

Once you have had your treatment is it normal to feel slightly swollen. This is partly due to the local anaesthetic which is incorporated into our dermal fillers to make them pain-free; but also due to the injections causing some inflammation. We advice cold compress every 2-3 hours for 20 mins for the first 1-2 days to help minimize this and any bruising.

You will also feel some mild areas of discomfort that normally settles with 1-2 days where occasionally you may get a small bruise. Do contact us if pain or redness get worse.

The treated area can remain swollen for 2-3 days but in most cases this settle quicker than this. Very rarely the swelling can increase a little more over the first 1-3 days and as long as it is not painful this is normal as often due to the product settling into the skin.  Firm massaging and cold compresses will help speed this up as well as some ibuprofen if needed.

Some small areas of bruising is normal and these generally settle after 5-7 days and makeup can be used to conceal these. Also arnica cream can be helpful.

What if I feel some lumps ?

It is normal to feel some lumps within the skin over the first few weeks. If they are not visible, leave them alone. If they are visible them firmly massage them 4-5 times a day for 2-3 minutes.  We only use soluble dermal fillers so the product will eventually settle down over a few weeks. Very rarely if they don’t, we can dissolve them if necessary.

What if I get abnormal swelling and or pain ?

Please contact us if you have any concerns we are happy to answer any queries day or night.

How long should I expect it to last?

The products last 6-12 months but many patients notice it lasting longer. A review appointment after 6 months is normally a good idea to ensure it is not fading.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a very popular procedure which can be used to replenish lost volume in the skin, smoothing out lines, wrinkles and creases for a younger look.

In this case, the deep creases between the nose and mouth are very quickly improved.

Other areas that can be improved with dermal fillers include frown lines, cheeks and chin enhancement, mouth & lip lines (lip enhancement), nose reshaping (non-surgical nose job). The  ultimate use of dermal fillers is the 8 point face lift which lifts the facial structures at 8 key points in order to deliver a younger fresher look without surgery.
