A wide or square jawline can be caused by overdeveloped masseter muscles (Masseter Hypertrophy). This enlargement can occur due to several factors:

- Bruxism (Teeth Grinding and Clenching) – chronic clenching or grinding of teeth, often stress-related or occurring during sleep, can significantly bulk up the masseter muscles.
- Excessive Chewing – habits like frequent gum chewing or a diet that requires a lot of chewing can contribute to muscle hypertrophy, leading to a more pronounced jawline due to hypertrophy (enlargement) of the masseter muscles.
- Ethnicity – some ethnicities may have a higher prevalence of individuals with naturally more prominent masseter muscles.

Botox Treatment for Jaw Slimming
The procedure involves several small injections of Botox directly into the targeted jaw muscles. The number of injections and the dosage will depend on the severity of your bruxism and the size of your muscles
Immediately after the injections, you will likely be advised to avoid touching or rubbing the treated area for a few hours, and to remain upright for about 4 hours.
As with all Botox treatmnets, we discourage strenuous exercise, alcohol consumption, and hot temperatures (like saunas) for the rest of the day or for 24 hours.
Some patients experience mild and temporary side effects like soreness, bruising, or swelling at the injection site. In some cases, there are no side-effects at all.
There is typically minimal downtime after Botox injections. Most patients choose return to their normal activities immediately.
The effects of Botox are temporary, typically lasting for 4-5 months. Over time, the nerve signals will gradually return, and muscle activity will resume. To maintain the slimmer jawline, repeat treatments are necessary.
However, with repeated treatments, some individuals may experience a longer duration of results as the muscles may undergo more significant atrophy.
