Same-Day Repair Treatment for Split Earlobes

There are many causes of split earlobes from heavy earrings, spacers or gauges; to an accident causing the lobe to split, but one thing is sure, they’re unlikely to heal on their own.

Once split, the two ‘raw’ sides will generally heal over separately, creating a ‘cleft’.

The good news is that repairing a split earlobe is now possible as a minor surgical procedure which can be undertaken the same day as the consultation at Cosmedics Skin Clinics in London.

The earlobe is firstly cleaned and then numbed with a local anaesthetic. Then the doctor/surgeon removes a small amount of skin around the split to expose raw flesh before then stitching the two sides back together.

Cosmedics Skin Clinics’ team try to put the stitches behind the earlobe where possible in order to give a better aesthetic result both during and after healing.

The sort of result that can be expected depends on the condition of the earlobe and the nature of the split. If it is a straight vertical split (such as caused by earring damage), then a large amount of flesh is generally left and an excellent result can be achieved.

After very large spacers, it may be expected that less flesh remains, limiting the potential effectiveness of surgery. However, excellent results have been achieved even after very large or multiple spacers. A google images search for ‘before and after ear spacer surgery’ shows some excellent results, restoring a normal ear shape.

Many patients undertake this procedure in order to look more normal or approachable, especially for a professional environment.

With same day surgery and stitches lasting a week, earlobe repair surgery can deliver surprisingly rapid results. Although scarring can take a year to settle, the difference to the overall shape and structure of the earlobe is immediate.

Earlobe Repair Surgery Prices

Earlobe repair is a relatively quick procedure and generally takes no more than an hour including the consultation. Prices start at £950 for one earlobe (from £1,500 for two).
