pilar cyst removalThe latest cyst removal demo video from Cosmedics shows Dr Ross Perry removing a Pilar Cyst from a man’s scalp. Footage shows the pilar cyst being squeezed out of a man’s head in the ultimate ‘pimple popping’ display, which has been featured in the Daily Mail.

Dr Ross Perry told the Daily Mail:

“This is a pilar cyst, which is fairly common on the scalp and can often grow to quite a substantial size. It normally starts off as a pea-sized lump and then continues to grow.

“This one had been present on the man for more than 5 years and had grown to such an extent that it had become very visible and had caused hair loss in the patch.

“Patients love how quick this type of removal is and are often keen to see what was removed and always wonder what was in it. It’s a Camembert like goo that smells like cheesy feet.”

Dr Perry explained more about the actual cyst removal procedure:

“The cyst was around 3cm in size, so rather than make a big incision I made a micro incision under local anaesthetic so it was painless and then I took the contents of the cyst out first by squeezing it out through the hole.

“The cyst sac that is stuck to the skin is divided from the skin and skull surface and then pulled out through the same small hole.

“This procedure literally only takes a few minutes and leaves a tiny hole that is then stitched and heals with an invisible scar.

“Pilar cysts affect around 10% of the population and are sometimes confused with boils or skin abscesses.

“They don’t normally hurt, but can become tender, sore and red if they become infected, and the pus can smell pretty bad should it become infected.”

  • Fast and efficient treatment
  • Choice of clinics in London
  • No waiting lists
  • Treatment can be same day as consultation if patient and doctor agree
  • Pain-free thanks to local anaesthetic
  • Treatment includes careful removal of the cyst sac in order to minimise the risk of recurrence
  • Minimal-scarring techniques, so after healing, the scar is rarely noticeable at all
