Cosmedics Skin Clinics’ Medical Director, Dr Ross Perry, carried out a live interview and Botox demonstration for the Daily Mail’s Mail Online Live yesterday on their Facebook page.

The interview included discussion of popular cosmetic injections which have become so very popular over the last 10 years.

Dr Perry says more Botox is carried out than any other procedure as:

“We do probably more Botox than any other cosmetic treatments. …it just works so well. It’s a safe, simple procedure when done in the right hands. Patients love it, they want to come back every 3-4 months to maintain the results that we are able to achieve.”

“Then add onto that the resurgence of fillers, which are collagen-based treatments which try and lift up the areas of the skin where Botox doesn’t work.”

“So between the 2 treatments we’re able to pretty much rejuvenate people’s faces with a global aspect – in combination they work very well together.”

The interview goes onto explain how the treatments work.

Botox

Dr Ross Perry explains how the treatment works:

“Botox classically works on the upper third of the face where it just relaxes the muscles. By relaxing the muscles, the wrinkle that is created is relaxed as well, so rather than these heavy deep frown lines or crow’s feet around the sides of the eyes, the muscles creating the over-tensioning… … you relax the muscles underneath the skin and then the wrinkles over the top relax out as a result… it’s an indirect approach to rejuvenating the skin.”

Areas treated are the frown, forehead area and sides of the eyes.

Fillers

“For the lower part of the face – lips, cheeks – we tend to use products called fillers, a gel based product which literally just fill out the areas where the collagen has worn away.”

Fillers tend not to be used in delicate areas where the skin is thin e.g. the eyes.
