FAQ's

Day Case Surgery Questions & Answers

Will it hurt?

All our procedures are made ‘pain-free’ with appropriate and safe use of local anaesthetic or numbing cream. Our practitioners are all medically qualified and procedures are carried out in safe medical settings.

How does local anaesthetic work?

A local anaesthetic is a pharmacological agent that is injected either into the immediate area that is to be treated, so only numbing a tiny area or can be used in a regional block which involves numbing a larger area. The area will be completely painless afterwards.

What type of local anaesthetic do you use?

In minor surgery, it is commonplace to use lignocaine with adrenaline as this helps minimise any bleeding during the surgery.

What if I'm sensitive to local anaesthetic?

Very rarely people can feel their heart race or feel a bit faint which passes in a few minutes. Lignocaine with adrenaline is frequently used by dentists, so if you have not had a reaction when a having any tooth treatments then you are unlikely to have any issues.

Anaesthetic injections are also available without adrenaline and are used for surgery on the fingers and toes as well as for anyone who is sensitive to adrenaline. Most anaesthetics work within 1-2 minutes and last for 1-3 hours.

It is always important to have a thorough medical consultation and any local anaesthetic injected in a medical setting.

Do you offer numbing cream?

Anaesthetic creams such as EMLA are available for less invasive skin treatments and provide a good numbing effect.

Who will carry out my treatment?

At Cosmedics Skin Clinics, all procedures are carried out by fully accredited surgeons or doctors trained in surgical techniques. This does vary depending on the procedure – you will see on each treatment page which doctors/surgeons offer this treatment.

How can I check the doctor/surgeon's credentials?

This website has plenty of information about our team of clinicians – meet the doctors and surgeons.

Are all your surgery procedures 'day case'?

Yes, there’s no need for an overnight stay with any of our procedures. They’re all on a ‘walk in walk out’ basis, so you can return home on the same day. This makes them more convenient as well as more cost effective than traditional hospital surgery.

Where do I go for surgery?

For popular skin lesion removal (moles, warts, skin tags etc) we offer appointments and treatment at all of our clinic locations:

For certain more specialist treatments, procedures are only available in selected locations due to the practitioner and equipment required (varicose veins, haemorrhoids, upper blepharoplasty). Please see the individual treatment page for details about who offers the procedure and which clinics it is available at.

How do I book?

There are a number of ways to book:

  • Book online – most of our treatments can be booked online, the fastest and easiest way if you know what you want
  • Call 0207 386 0464 to speak to an advisor for more information and to find out latest availability
