FashionBeans: Sunbeds for Acne and Psoriasis?

Men’s fashion and style website, FashionBeans, looked into male skincare and grooming myths with an article entitled:

“Doctors Reveal The Skincare Products Men Think Work But Don’t”

Adult acne can be quite distressing and it is certainly a good idea to seek treatment in order to avoid long term problems such as acne scarring, which can last for life.

The article looks past the packaging and jargon to see what products and skin techniques men should dismiss and which are worth pursuing.

fashionbeansThe feature sought Dr Ross Perry’s advice on the issue of whether sunbeds could help to improve skin conditions such as acne and psoriasis. He says

“Sunbeds produce UVB rays which can help in psoriasis. However, UVA and UVB rays – i.e. natural sunlight or medical light machines – are seen to be much more effective.”

“For acne, in some people UVB light can improve acne temporarily, but is no substitute for more conventional treatments.”

The feature goes on to share important warnings about the dangers of using sunbeds, saying:

“According to the National Cancer Institute, people who use tanning beds more than once a month are 55% more likely to develop malignant melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer. So if you’re suffering from acne or psoriasis, it’s a much better idea to get yourself to the doctor for some top-notch skincare advice than giving all your hard-earned cash away to the local tanning salon.”
