Advice on Concealers in Men’s Health
Men’s Health asked Cosmedics’ founder Dr Ross Perry for his expert advice on concealing under eye shadows in its article
“The 10 Best Concealers for Men to Try for a Fresher Appearance in 2022”
Increasing numbers of men have been reaching for concealer over the last few years. It’s the single produce that could instantly hide imperfections from dark circles under the eyes to spots.
Increasing use of video over the last 2 years has put the spotlight on facial features and appearance and a quick dab of concealer is one way to mask the things we don’t want to show.
Men’s Health asked Dr Ross Perry for his views on the uptake of concealer for men. He explained:
“We’re seeing our imperfections far more frequently, fine lines, under eye circles/bags and enlarged pores, and as most of us lead busy lives, often finding ourselves under pressure and stress, that can result in sleepless nights and not looking after ourselves properly.
“It’s also become much more acceptable for men to also wear make-up, social media, celebrities, male grooming influencers have made it entirely the norm, therefore it comes as no surprise that more men are purchasing concealers and wanting to look their best.”
Choosing the best concealer for men
Purchasing concealer is often new territory for men, many of whom prefer the anonymity of online shopping. So how do you pick the right product for your skin tpe and colouring?
Dr Ross Perry told Men’s Health:
“First of all, look for a concealer which is as close a match to your own skin tone. Most online outlets now have tools to pick one as close a match as possible
“You want the concealer to cover your imperfections, but not look obvious.
“Think about texture: if your skin is dry you should be aiming for a creamy concealer; and, if it’s oily, aim for a more matte version.”
How to apply concealer
Dr Perry also gave some tips on how to apply concealer:
“It’s important that skin is well moisturised before applying concealer in the first instance, but it is tricky to find one to suit your own skin so be aware it might be a case of trial and error to start with.
“Concealer can be used to hide pimples, fine lines, under eye bags and dark circles and therefore you need to choose the right one for your needs. For under the eye problems, ie- bags and dark circles, a lightweight cream or a balm will work well, but if it’s acne or pimples you’re trying to cover then you might need something thicker and matte.”
The Men’s Health feature suggested 10 concealers suitable for men. Prices ranged from £9.98 for e.l.f. Cosmetics Color Correcting Stick to £34.00 for Tom Ford’s concealer. All options come in a variety of skin tones and shades.

Upper blepharoplasty procedure
For longer lasting results that make a big difference, Cosmedics Skin Clinics also offers upper blepharoplasty surgery, also known as eye lift, at both the Harley Street clinic and the Putney clinic.
The treatment is a very effective way of rejuvenating the appearance of the eye area. As a surgical procedure, it is able to produce more noticeable results than might be achieved with injectable treatments alone, as it removes excess skin for a tighter and smoother look. However, at Cosmedics Skin Clinics, our highly experienced surgeons ensure that the procedure doesn’t go too far, so results look natural yet highly effective. This is carried out as a ‘day case’ procedure.
