Popular magazine My Weekly shared its '10 Beauty Commandments' of simple and effective tips. The feature included advice from Dr Ross Perry, a skin expert who has carried out thousands of non-surgical procedures in Cosmedics Skin Clinics' London and Bristol skin clinics. Dr Perry provided the top 3 tips, which are all designed to keep the skin healthy and clear:
1/ Remove make up before going to bed

"No matter how tired you are, if your face isn't properly cleansed, make-up and build up from the day itself will just sink further into the skin and clog the pores, resulting in breakouts, congestion and dull, lacklustre-looking skin."
Removing make up helps your skin to breathe and regenerate overnight without having to deal with make up debris.
2/ Wear sunscreen

"I advise people to opt for a broad spectrum sunscreen to be protected against both UVB rays, responsible for sunburn and melanomas, and UVA rays, which cause wrinkles and ageing."
Don't be tempted to rely on make-up or moisturiser with added SPF, as it is unlikely to provide sufficient protection.
3/ Wash make up brushes

"Brush hairs and sponges are porous, so they hold onto oil, dead skin cells and bacteria; which can clog pores and lead to breakouts. "Pop the bristles into warm water and massage in a gentle cleanser. Rinse, squeeze excess water with a clean towel, then re-shape and let them dry naturally."
Dr Perry advises that foundation/concealer brushes should be washed weekly while eyeshadow brushes can be done monthly.
7 More Beauty Tips
The My Weekly Feature included further advice:

Adding definition to eyebrows adds the perception of youth - enhancing the colour can really help, but avoid harsh lines

Eye creams are specially formulated with extra ingredients and can help to improve the skin under or around the eyes

If you have particular skin issues e.g. pigmentation, rosacea; try new skincare products that are specially designed to tackle these issues

Go easy on the foundation - heavy products can actually highlight lines. Choose a lighter foundation and apply lightly, focusing on problem areas

Facial massage can help to hydrate and stimulate the skin

Old cosmetics can irritate the skin. Mascara and liquid liners should be changed every 3 months, liquid foundation/concealer every year, lipstick and powder blush up to 5 years

Ensure you get enough sleep so that your skin and body can recover

Dr Ross Perry
Dr Ross Perry is Founder and Medical Director of Cosmedics Skin Clinics.
