Why are Surgical Face Lifts Declining in the UK?

BAAPS Statistics

Latest figures released by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (www.baaps.org.uk) show the number of surgical facelifts in the UK has fallen by 44%, while brow lifts are down 31%.

The fall in facial rejuvenation is a key factor in the overall decrease in the  number of Britons undergoing cosmetic surgery. Total procedures are down 7.9% in 2017 from the previous year

BAAPS President and consultant plastic surgeon Simon Withey attributed the downturn in cosmetic surgery procedures to improved understanding of the serious impact of surgical procedures. He said:

“The 2017 BAAPS audit offers valuable new insights into the extent that Britons online personas may be driving offline behaviours. The slight downwards shift in surgical procedures overall hopefully continues to demonstrate that at the very least, patients are realising that cosmetic surgery is not a ‘quick fix’ but a serious commitment.”

Dr Ross Perry, founder of Cosmedics Skin Clinics, agreed, saying:

“Facelifts have fallen as people are wanting less downtime and more risk averse.”

Non-Surgical Procedures

One key aspect to the downturn in facial rejuvenation surgery is the rise in credible, alternative options. Non-surgical procedures are offering better than ever results without the cost, risk and recovery implications of full face lift surgery.

BAAPS Simon Withey added:

“Although there may be some new non-surgical options for cosmetic treatments, it is important to remember that ‘non-surgical’ does not mean ‘non-medical’, and patients should be wary of anything touted which seems too good, or too cheap, to be true. The climate of lax regulation has yet to be addressed in a satisfactory manner to protect the public.”

Dr Ross Perry said:

“Non-surgical procedures are achieving incredible results.  Options such as the 8-point face lift are leading the industry forward and enabling clients to enjoy greater results from cosmetic injections.

“However, I definitely agree that clients should choose a provider with care.

“At Cosmedics Skin Clinics, all cosmetic injections – including BOTOX®, dermal fillers and lip filler – are carried out by skilled and experienced Cosmetic Doctors.”
