FAQ's

Seborrhoiec Keratosis Treatment Questions & Answers

Does seborrhoiec keratosis removal hurt?

No, there is no pain at all. Depending on the nature and location of the Seborrhoiec Keratosis, our doctors will either use a numbing gel or a small local anaesthetic to ensure there is no discomfort at all.

Does seborrhoeic keratosis removal leave a scar?

Any skin surgery can leave some kind of scar, but this is usually much less noticeable than the original seborrhoeic keratosis. Scars do fade with time and may not even be detectable to the human eye. Our doctors use minimal scarring methods in removing all lesions and blemishes.

How are seborrhoeic warts diagnosed?

Our doctors are highly experienced in diagnosing and treating a wide array of skin blemishes and lesions and can normally diagnose seborrhoeic keratosis from examination. There is no need for a biopsy prior to removal.

If there are any concerns about the nature of the problem, then a sample can be sent for independent testing after removal.

How long does it take for seborrhoeic keratosis removal to heal?

Seborrhoeic keratosis removal is quite a superficial treatment, so the wound will usually heal quite quickly.

  • Facial seborrhoeic keratosis removal – around 7 days
  • Body seborrhoeic keratosis removal – around 14 days
Is seborrhoiec keratosis a hereditary condition?

A tendency to Seborrhoiec Keratosis does tend to run in the family, so if either of your parents had it then you may well have inherited a likelihood to develop them. However, it is not always the case.

Is seborrhoeic keratosis caused by sun exposure?

No, unlike moles, Seborrhoiec keratoses are not generally considered to be related to sun exposure.

The main reasons for developing seborrhoeic keratosis are age-related and genetic (i.e. they run in families).

Can I get treatment straightaway?

Our appointment times are generous, so you can go ahead there and then with our ‘See & Treat’ policy, provided both patient and doctor/surgeon are both in agreement to do so.

AFTERCARE INFORMATION - Wart Removal

Wart removal often leaves a wound like a small graze. These typically heal over 1-2 weeks. They can be slightly sore for the first few days so can take some paracetamol or ibuprofen. The wounds ideally need to be covered for the first week and then they can be let open to the air.

If the wound shows signs of getting more painful after a week then let us know as this may indicate an infection.

Warts are particularly stubborn and can recur, so if this is the case then it may need a follow up treatment.
