After mole removal, This diagram shows what to expect at every stage of your journey.
Step by Step Healing After Shave Excision Mole Removal
Day 1–3
- The wound is fresh and may have stitches if it was a deeper excision.
- Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness is normal.
- A protective scab begins to form as the body starts the healing process.
Day 3–14
- Stitches (if present) are usually removed around day 7–14.
- The wound closes and may appear as a flat pink or red line.
- The area may feel slightly tight or itchy as new tissue forms.
2–4 Weeks
- The incision site is fully closed.
- The scar appears red or pink as blood vessels repair and collagen builds.
- It may feel firm to touch due to early scar tissue formation.
6–8 Weeks
- The scar is still red/pink but begins to flatten.
- Itching and sensitivity gradually improve.
- Skin around the scar starts blending in with surrounding tissue.
4–6 Months
- The scar becomes lighter in colour, moving from pink/red to pale.
- Scar tissue softens and becomes less noticeable.
- Most people no longer experience discomfort at this stage.
6–9 Months
- The scar continues to fade and flatten.
- In many cases, it blends well with the natural skin tone, though a faint line may remain.
- Final scar appearance depends on factors like skin type, sun protection, and aftercare.
