You will be given full information in your consultation, so that you know what to expect prior to treatment. Follow the doctor/surgeon’s advice – this is likely to include:

• You may be advised to cover the wound with a plaster or dressing, but this isn’t always necessary
• Wash with mild soap and cool water for a few days to avoid irritating the wound
• Once initial healing has taken place, you can apply an ointment to keep the wound moisturised and reduce the risk or appearance of scarring (Vaseline, Bio Oil or silicon scar gel)
• It’s OK to shower and bathe, but avoid excessive submersion for the first week
