Beware – misleading use of skin treatment photos
Cosmedics Skin Clinics has discovered a number of photos of injectable skin treatments used by competitors (passing off) and even by companies selling skincare serums and products (false advertising).
They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. However, use of photos for which you don’t own copyright is illegal.
What’s more, it is highly misleading.
One such example relates to treatment using both BOTOX anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. Dr Ross Perry treated our patient Ness at Cosmedics Skin Clinics in London. Her before and after results are shown below:
Unfortunately, we’ve found unauthorised use of this image on a number of websites and social media channels, including:
- A number of skin treatment providers (competitors) who are seeking to pass the work off as their own
- Skin product providers e.g. serums, creams and moisturisers. This is clearly false advertising as the results don’t relate to any product use at all. They were achieved through injectable treatment.
- Health capsules. It’s disappointing to see our results used with fake testimonials for supplements.
You’ll notice our photos have a ‘watermark’ to try and protect our copyright, but competitors tend to ‘crop’ or ‘mask’ so that our logo does not show. However, some have even posted the photo with our logo on their own website!
It can be hard to track down unauthorised usage, but where we do spot our photos, we try to contact web owners and request their removal. This is not always easy, as some websites don’t publish contact details. Where we have contacted other sites, results are mixed. Some say that they didn’t realise, remove the image and apologise. Others are not so quick to accept liability.
We’ll be contacting a number of websites today and we plan to publish a list of those that use our photos and fail to remove them when asked to do so.
