When Sharon spotted a beauty deal on social media offering three EndoliftX laser treatments for just £100 — instead of the usual £1,900 — she jumped at the chance. Marketed as a non-surgical facelift that could tighten and lift skin, it seemed like the perfect fix for her uneven brows.
But moments after the procedure began at a Leeds salon, Sharon realised something was wrong. The pain was intense — “like my skin was being burned” — and her face quickly became swollen and bruised. Within hours she looked as though she’d “been punched in the face”.
The swelling and bruising lasted for weeks, leaving Sharon with lasting pigmentation marks and deep regret. Later, she discovered the device used was likely a fake EndoliftX machine, not the genuine medical-grade technology.
Experts warn her story is far from unique. The rise of counterfeit devices and unqualified practitioners is fuelling a wave of botched “bargain” beauty procedures across the UK. What look like harmless social media offers can in fact be dangerous, unregulated treatments with serious long-term consequences.
The Sun asked Dr Ross Perry, Aesthetic Expert and Medical Director of Cosmedics Skin Clinics for his views on the story. Ross warned:
“If a treatment is cheap, there’s a reason, and that should always be a red flag when considering any aesthetic procedure.
“Endolift, for example, is an advanced and costly treatment that should only ever be carried out by a medically qualified professional. The fact it’s expensive reflects the skill, equipment and training required to perform it safely.
“Sharon had a lucky escape as the outcome could have been far worse.
“When researching aesthetic treatments, always check the clinic or practitioner’s credentials, read reviews and assess the cost. Injectable fillers or Botox, non-surgical facelifts, body contouring, vampire facials, chemical peels and laser procedures can all be extremely dangerous if performed by unqualified individuals.
“If the practitioner is a beautician, or you cannot confirm their medical qualifications, it’s likely a scam. You are putting your health at serious risk and wasting your money. Always prioritise safety and verified expertise over bargains.”
