Varicose Vains Removal Laser Treatment
NICE approved treatment
Patients looking for the best solution to varicose veins treatment can rest assured that at Cosmedics Vein Centre we offer the newest minimally invasive leg vein laser treatment called endovenous laser ablation – EVLA or EVLT.
EVLA has been approved by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and is only available on the NHS for severe cases and so most patients have to find a private service.
Laser varicose vein removal costs
We are fortunate in having our own dedicated vein treatment centre so that we can offer the most affordable prices in London for varicose veins, for example, EVLA cost for one leg is at Cosmedics – £1,650 compared to The Vein Centre £1,895, Whitely Clinics £2,350 SKN clinics from £2,350.
The good news does not end there as our consultations are £150 and include a free scan whereas most other clinics are at least £50 more expensive and scan costs can be added.

Laser varicose vein removal procedure
The procedure begins with an ultrasound scan to mark the position of the vein. A local anaesthetic is injected around the vein to ease any discomfort. A fine probe is then inserted through a small incision, usually near the knee. Laser energy is delivered in short pulses to seal the faulty vein so that blood cannot flow through. The leg is then bandaged to reduce swelling and bruising.
The removal of varicose veins does not affect blood flow because other veins and especially the deep veins take over this job. It is thus perfectly safe and indeed beneficial to remove varicose veins.
Treatment Time
EVLA takes between 1-2 hours
Recovery Time
Initial discomfort for 1-2 days. Swelling and bruising that can last 1-2 weeks. Pigmentation changes to the skin which should settle in 1-2 months.
Results
Most patients see a good instant result but for some patients the best results are at 6 weeks after the procedure.
Results Duration
Results are permanent in over 95% of cases

EVLA FAQ – your laser varicose vein treatment questions answered
How long does the laser procedure take?
EVLA laser vein removal takes between 1-2 hours
Does EVLA varicose vein treatment hurt?
EVLA procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. Some patients experience a little discomfort afterwards for which simple paracetamol may be all that is required in the first 24 hours.
The dressings/stockings might itch a bit but that is relatively minor.
Are there any side effects after EVLA treatment?
Common side effects include initial discomfort for 1-2 days and swelling and bruising that can last for a week or two. There might be some pigmentation changes to the skin which should settle in 1-2 months.
Is the long term safety OK after this treatment?
Yes, long term safety for this procedure is well documented.
Will I have bandages after treatment?
Is there a future risk of DVT after EVLA treatment?
The risk of DVT at a later date is no more than normal (i.e. if you hadn’t had varicose veins treated with EVLA).
How long will the results last?
Results are permanent in over 95% of cases.
How soon will I see the results?
Most patients see a good instant result but for some patients the best results are at 6 weeks after the procedure.
Do I have to wear special stockings?
Normally bandages are worn for a couple of days, then surgical support/compression stockings for a week after that. We will recommend suitable stockings for you to wear during your recovery. These are easily hidden with clothing (i.e. trousers, long skirt).
Do I take time off work?
This is carried out as a day case procedure and there is no need for an overnight stay. You can return straight home to put your feet up. Most of our patients do return straight to normal activities the next day, but others may prefer an extra day or so to recover just in case. This is a personal choice.
When will I see results after EVLA?
You will see straight away that the blue and lumpy veins have been removed. It will take a while for bruising to clear and we suggest the full results are to be expected after 4-6 weeks.
Where can I get this treatment?
This treatment protocol is exclusive to our Vascular Surgeon, Mr Parameswaran. It is available for private clients at our Putney Vein Treatment Centre.
Varicose Veins Treatment Review
“I was delighted with my treatment with Mr Sridhar.
“Not only was I able to walk home immediately after the procedure, but I found the whole experience very straightforward and quite unbelievably not even painful. Took 2 painkillers that day but apart from that I was able to carry on my normal week, apart from having to wear stockings which were a bit hot and itchy! All the bulges had gone and so had the aching and discomfort.
“Once the stockings came off there was virtually no bruising and only a few little marks which I understand will settle over a month or two.
“It was far cheaper than other places I looked at too, so I would highly recommend Cosmedics if you have varicose veins.”
