Facial Mole Removal Treatments in London & Bristol

Moles are common on the face and often grow as we age. Removing moles is often a quick and easy process which can enhance the appearance and stop them from getting bigger.

Facial Moles

Facial moles can be particularly troublesome simply because they are so visible and can be impossible to hide. Where they are raised, they can be a problem with shaving and even more noticeable. Hairy moles are particularly difficult for both men and women.

  • Age – they can increase as we get older and/or become more prominent facial moles tend to be associated with:
  • Family history – if relatives were ‘moley’ then you are more likely to be too
  • Sun exposure – the UVA/UVB rays can also be a factor

Mole Removal on The Face

Facial mole removal is one of the commonest procedures we do at Cosmedics. You will have noticed a mole growing slowly over time that has now reached a size that is more prominent than you would like. Having your facial mole removed for cosmetic reasons is completely normal especially when it is no longer the nice beauty spot and is now a hairy mole or small mole you had as a child that catches when shaving or gets irritated.

At Cosmedics we understand the need for the best mole removal possible with little or no scarring when its on your face”

Although the NHS will not generally remove moles without a medical concern, private mole removal offers a solution. Our experts offer minimal scarring treatment options for moles on the face

Cosmedics’ doctors use laser mole removal and skin surgery techniques for minimal scarring. The procedure is quick and pain-free and often can be done on the same day as the appointment.

Mole Consultation

Consultations with our doctors or surgeons cost £75 for mole removal. The consultation fee is redeemable against the price of mole removal treatment when carried out at the same appointment as the consultation.

Doctor consultations are purely for the moles’ patients request to have assessed for removal. Most facial moles can be removed using a laser or shave excision surgery, which requires no stitches. Larger moles or certain flat or suspicious moles may be better treated using Ellipse Excision, a technique that requires stitches (dissolvable in most cases). Please book separately for a full body mole check.

Histology / Testing of the Mole

* All moles that are removed are sent to a separate laboratory for histology microscopic testing by a pathologist doctor to ensure the correct diagnosis. This is a standard requirement for good medical practice and results will be sent to you via encrypted email.

Please call 0207 386 0464 OR email enquiries@cosmedics.co.uk for help.

Facial Mole Removal FAQ: Questions & Answers

Can I get it done on the NHS?

Close Icon

The NHS classes mole removal for cosmetic reasons as “non-essential” and therefore free treatment is very unlikely to be offered.

However, if you have a mole that is suspicious, we recommend you see a GP in the first instance. If the GP agrees it to be potentially cancerous, then they will refer you quickly for an expert assessment and rapid treatment.

Do you use a laser?

Close Icon

Our Doctors and Surgeons have a number of techniques available. Most facial moles are removed using a special medical laser or shave excision surgery. Both of these techniques require no stitches, which makes recovery very quick.

However, for very large or flat moles, we may recommend ellipse excision (with stitches).

Our Doctors and Surgeons are highly experienced and remove thousands of moles. They will advise the best treatment method after examination of your mole.

Do I need separate appointments for consultation and treatment?

Close Icon

Most of our clients opt to have the treatment and consultation together in just one appointment. We allow plenty of time for this and offer this unique ‘See & Treat’ service at all our clinics. We also deduct the consultation fee for ‘See & Treat’ clients, to reflect the convenience of having just one appointment.

However, there’s no obligation to go ahead unless and until you’re quite ready to do so. You’re welcome to arrange a separate appointment for treatment if you prefer.

Does mole removal hurt?

Close Icon

Facial mole removal is not painful, as we use a local anaesthetic first to numb the area. You’ll just feel a little sting as the injection goes in, but won’t feel the mole removal at all.

Will it leave a scar?

Close Icon

It is realistic to expect some kind of scarring after having a mole removed. However, this tends to be much less noticeable than the original mole itself. In addition, scars fade over a period of time and eventually most are barely noticeable.

How can I reduce scarring?

Close Icon

We recommend a silicon scar gel. Applied twice daily, this forms a protective barrier over the wound, allowing it to heal well and remain hydrated.

Kelo-Cote® scar gel is available in our clinics.

Can you treat more than one mole at once?

Close Icon

Yes, we very often remove 2 or more moles in one session and prices are cheaper for additional moles. If you have very many moles, then it may be better to split treatment over more than one session. Our Doctors and Surgeons will advise the best course of treatment during consultation, after examination of your moles.

Do I have to have histology/mole testing?

Close Icon

Our medical guidelines state that we should send ALL mole specimens for testing, even if they look completely normal. This is the only way to be sure; as moles may look ok on the surface but have abnormalities lower down.

The removed mole lesion/specimen goes to a separate laboratory and is examined under a microscope by an expert. This is an independent service. Results are returned very quickly for your peace of mind.

Can you remove moles from the eyelid?

Close Icon

Usually yes. Our surgeons are very skilled and some even have a subspecialty in oculoplastics, so are particularly knowledgeable and experienced in treating lesions in the eye area.
