New Superdrug Clinic Could be Too Good to Be True

Superdrug, the high street chemist chain, has recently rolled out a series of in-store “Pro Skin” clinics, designed to offer high street alternatives to cosmetic treatments with slightly more affordable high street price tags.

The chain’s clinics offer anti-wrinkle injections, laser hair-removal and microdermabrasion.

Prices start at £149 for Botox, compared to over £250 at most doctor-run clinics. Obviously, Superdrug’s prices are slightly more purse-friendly – but does this make them better?

If this sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Superdrug says they can afford to offer treatments with bargain price tags by reducing the mark-up and employing beauticians to carry out some of the procedures, rather than fully-trained medical personnel.

It is this crucial aspect that needs closer inspection. Botox is a prescription-only medicine which needs to be prescribed by a doctor. Ideally, you would expect that doctor to have actually met the patient and be administering the injections. Not so when a beautician is injecting.

In addition, botox is as much an art-form as a science and is best performed by a qualified medical practitioner who has fine knowledge of the underlying facial anatomy, as well as extensive experience.

Superdrug’s cost-effective approach might be intended to bring Botox to the masses, but there seems to be no guarantee that they’ll do it safely.

Where cosmetic surgery and treatments are concerned, it seems more sensible to invest a little more in choosing trained professionals. Paying an extra hundred pounds to have your treatment carried out by a trained and regulated doctor won’t break the bank, and in instances like this, it’s probably better to be safe than sorry.

If you value your health as much as your beauty, take a trip to a clinic such as Cosmedics in London, which offers affordable treatments that are safe and effective. Cosmedics offers Botox anti-wrinkle injections with fully qualified and highly experienced skin doctors. Doctor-led skin clinics are based in Harley Street, Putney, Knightsbridge and the City as well as in Bristol.
