Treatment Options

Professional wart and skin tag removal is extremely effective. There are 3 options used by Cosmedics, depending on the problem.

1. Laser wart removal and wart removal surgery

This option is used for resistant warts that have failed to respond to all other methods and used specifically for thick larger warts. It involves an injection to numb the warty area and then the whole wart is literally burned off leaving a wound that will take 1-2 weeks to heal.

2. Surgery (minor)

Minor surgery is also a common option for skin tags. They can sometimes be numerous in number and in delicate areas that freezing skin tags may not be ideal for. The procedure is normally done with some anaesthetic so no pain is felt and is very simple and quick to do by simply snipping them off and cauterizing the base to stop recurrence.

3. Cryotherapy / Freezing

For small warts and skin tags, freezing is the simplest and best method of removal. This usually involves applying some liquid nitrogen spray onto the lesion which then blisters for a few days before scabbing and falling off. With resistant warts sometimes a daily regime of paring down (with emery board), then applying Occulsal cream to burn off the wart and then wrapping in tape is also required.

Our aim to to provide a first class service however we cannot guarantee that treatment is possible until the lesion/warts have been seen by our doctor; whose advice takes precedence over any previous information given. Only once you have been assessed can we give you a full recommendation on what is your best treatment option. Occasionally that may mean a referral to another specialist whether it by for a different type of laser or for the complexity of the concern.

Why do we get warts?

Warts are commonly transmitted from person to person as they are Human papillomavirus and easily spread via contact. Often you will pick up the virus and not know it and then the wart will appear at a later stage. It is very common.

Why me?

Mostly just bad luck and the key is to treat them early before they get ‘roots’ and become very ingrown. In the genital area, warts are often sexually transmitted.

Will warts just go?

In some cases yes but this can take up to 18 months before the virus burns itself out. Unfortunately, if they don’t the wart can have grown quite large and thick which means it will be difficult to remove.

What is the best home treatment to get rid of warts?

Treat them early and properly. Simple measures are effective but need to be done regularly and often for 4- 6 weeks. We would recommend the following self-help or home treatment:

  • pare the wart down with emery board or sandpaper until almost bleeding DAILY
  • apply OCCLUSAL solution ( salicylic acid 26%) DAILY
  • wrap the wart in duct tape DAILY
  • continue for 4-6 weeks

What is the best treatment to remove warts?

Laser surgery for warts is our speciality. This is more invasive removes the wart in one session. We use local anaesthetic which numbs the area and makes the procedure comfortable throughout. Healing takes up to 2 weeks. Occasionally can leave a small scar but most patients prefer this to a wart on their fingers or face. We also offer surgery for larger/complex warts and cryotherapy for smaller warts and use alongside other treatments.

We also treat genital warts.

Patient Reviews

Very simple and quick. All done in 5 -10 minutes.

Should have done it ages ago and just seen specialist rather than struggle on it.

I saw my GP who was frankly useless and thank goodness I had a friend recommend Cosmedics. The procedure which was not exactly fun did what the doctor said and the 1 week later there is no sign of the wart that would just not go.

Doctor Consultations – Wart Treatment

A consultation with one of our UK-accredited doctors costs £50.

Prices for treatments carried out in the same appointment as the consultation will include the £50 consultation fee (note: same-day procedures are only undertaken where the procedure is deemed appropriate to do so AND the patient understands the full extent of the costs, risks and potential side effects and is consenting to proceed on that knowledge).

We may advise patients to have their skin lesions sent for histology/testing as occasionally rare or suspicious things are detected early on in lesions that can look normal, which is why this is good practice. We charge the lowest prices possible for histology as we realise patients often feel it is not required.

Histology/testing of the removed skin lesion is mandatory if the Doctor recommends it to ensure there are no abnormalities. The doctor will clarify this at the consultation and may refuse to do the treatment if the client refuses the histology recommendation or else ask the client to sign a document stating they went against the Doctors advice.

Any test results or correspondence will be sent to your email account via an encrypted system called Egress. Should this not be preferable, please let us know at your appointment.
