Warts Treatment

For years, people suffering from the highly contagious, viral skin infection of warts found little or no relief, as effective, wart treatment. In todays modern era luckily there are several wart treatments and medication available that will help remedy facial, planter / verruca or genital warts. Our patients simply want to get rid of them at all costs due there embarrassing appearance.

Basic wart treatments include the use of non-invasive, conventional techniques, such as burning or freezing of warts, or local application of chemical-based, creams and chemicals. Recent studies have shown occlusion with duct tape as well as stronger acids such as occlusal can help. In more severe cases of warts, the latest surgical methods are used including laser treatment.

What is the best wart treatment?

There’s no wart treatment that could be considered the best, if warts are described in generic terms. This is because of the many types of warts that affect different people, as well as the different parts of the body they affect. However, it could be fair to state that each specific wart treatment is the best and most successful for any specific type of wart. Unfortunately all warts can recurr as the virus is in our body for life.

For plantar warts ( verruca ) you start with basic creams from the chemist and pare down everyday and if these get bigger or more problematic then our doctors can offer to freeze them off.

For facial warts these can often be in delicate areas of the face so the treatments need to be very specific and exact so normal skin is not damaged. Creams often affect the surrounding skin and irriate. Getting rid of them by freezing can also be ok. For the more difficult warts we often use a laser treatment to burn them off. Rarely surgery would required and this would be a last resort.

For finger and hand warts which are common in adults as well as children treatments include simple acid rememdies from the chemist.

Cosmedics at home wart removal is a daily regime that needs to be done for 4-6 weeks:

1 - Pare down the wart daily with emery board or sandpaper until all the dead skin has been removed

2 - Apply OCCULSAL cream ( can get from chemist) as this is the strongest

3 - Apply DUCT tape or a plaster over the area this helps to keep the wart moist so the cream can penetrate.
