Thread Vein Removal

Laser or injections for visible veins on the face or body

legsRemoving thread veins is now painless with the best laser and injection treatments.

The causes of thread veins vary, but they are most commonly a result of family history, smoking or sun exposure.

For the broken, red spider veins on the face and particularly the nose we use a cautery laser to remove the redness.

For the thread veins on the legs, our doctors generally use injectable treatments called sclerotherapy to remove the blueish red marks on the skin.

Prices for facial thread vein treatments start at £160

Costs for leg veins injections start at £250. Please contact us for information about treatment for varicose veins, which usually appear on the legs and appear lumpy and blue in colour.

ALL thread vein and spider vein removal procedures are done by doctors in a safe medical setting.

Thread Vein Treatment

Thread veins typically occur on the face, nose, legs and body.

Face and nose thread veins or spider veins:

  • usually red veins
  • often caused by excessive sun damage, smoking or due to family genes
  • these are treated by laser to seal off these unsightly blemishes

Leg thread veins

  • that are an unsightly blue-reddy colour
  • often found on the back of the knee, thighs and lower legs
  • treated by an injection called sclerotherapy that seals off the veins
  • can take a few weeks before the results are seen as the vessels need to dissolve
  • this treatment is best done in the autumn, winter and spring as tight stockings are generally needed to be worn for a week afterwards

Who would benefit from thread vein removal treatments?

Anyone with unsightly or embarrassing reddish-blue veins on their legs or face.

What results would I see?

The thread veins would be removed and blemish-free skin revealed, giving you the confidence to wear what you want.

How much is treatment?

Treatment prices start at £160, but this would be confirmed at your consultation with the doctor. It is important to note that sometimes more than one session is required to get long lasting results and sometimes a maintenance session is required.

Do I have to wear stockings?

To ensure long lasting results it is important to note that clients who have leg scelotherapy treatment should wear compression class 2 stockings for a minimum of 48 hour post treatment but can be worn for up to 1 month post treatment. These are soon to be available to purchase at our Putney clinic or on line but can also be purchased at chemists.

Which is the best treatment – laser or sclerotherapy?

Laser is used mainly for thin, small lines on the face and occasionally on the legs. Sclerotherapy is better for larger bluey-red-purple thread veins on the legs.

Do the thread vein treatments hurt?

No. Only, a mild scratch-like discomfort that is over in seconds.

Can I return to work and normal activities?

In most cases ‘yes’.

Please note that stockings need to be worn following treatment to the legs. After all leg vein procedures tight stockings to be worn after treatment for a week which need to be purchased from chemist prior to appointment to wear for following 3-7 days.

Are there any side-effects from the thread vein treatment?

Occasionally you get some bruising and redness which settles in a week or so. Rarely some light brown marks can be left where the vein once was, but this normally settles.

Are thread vein removal treatments available on the NHS?
