Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer - statistics estimate that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer at some point.

However, it is entirely preventable as it is a "lifestyle disease", which means that it is not contagious, but affects people due to the lifestyle choices they make, namely exposure to the sun.

About 90 percent of nonmelanoma skin cancers and 65 percent of melanoma cases are associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.

In April 2002, the Food and Drug Administration approved Botox for cosmetic use. Since then, this fashionable procedure has gone on to change the lives of women and men the world over.

The toxin that has since become Botox was initially discovered in the 1820s, and was initially used to treat nerve disorders and excessive sweating. It's only been since the 1960s that Botox has been used for cosmetic purposes; in 1978 the FDA approved the drug to be used in treatments of cross-eye, and it went on sale under the name Oculinum.

In 1987, a Canadian doctor began to notice that patients injected with the toxin were losing their frown lines as well as their crossed eyes, and new experiments began. It wasn't until 1989 however that the product's name was changed to Botox, and in 2002 the drug was finally given FDA approval for use between the eyebrows to reduce frown lines.
